Still Life of Figs and Plums (Nature morte aux figues et prunes), July 1857
A finely executed mid-19th-century French still life depicting ripe figs and blue plums arranged as a botanical study against a warm beige ground. Rendered in watercolor with black pencil and heightened with touches of white gouache, the composition displays the artist's careful observation of texture, color, and natural form, with several fruits shown opened to reveal their interiors. Signed and dated lower right "juillet 57" (July 1857). Presented in a molded wood frame. A refined example of French botanical and natural history painting by Adèle Hippolyte Lallemand.
