Maison Ramsay Gilt Wrought-Iron and Glass Coffee Table, France, Mid-20th Century
An elegant French gilt wrought-iron coffee table by Maison Ramsay, dating to the mid-20th century, distinguished by its graceful, sculptural construction and refined Neoclassical character. The rectangular frame is raised on four dramatically curved, scroll-form legs terminating in small block feet and joined by slender twisted rope-form iron stretchers. Particularly attractive are the hand-worked knotted and wrapped details joining the stretchers, which lend the construction the appearance of tied cord or rope. The combination of scrolling supports, rope-twist metalwork, and gilt surfaces is characteristic of the sophisticated decorative vocabulary associated with Maison Ramsay, the celebrated Parisian design house known for its inventive Neoclassical-inspired furniture and ornamental metalwork.

The hand-forged iron retains a beautifully aged gilt finish with rubbing, darkening, and areas of loss that contribute an appealing vintage patina. The table is surmounted by its original substantial thick clear glass top, rectangular in form with clipped corners, allowing the architectural ironwork and warm gilded surface beneath to remain fully visible. Combining the visual lightness of glass with richly textured, handcrafted metalwork, this distinctive Maison Ramsay table makes an elegant centerpiece for both classical and modern interiors.
