Pierre Giraudon (French, b. 1923)
Amber Crackle Lucite Obelisk, circa 1970
Decorative obelisk-form sculpture by Pierre Giraudon, executed in translucent amber-colored Lucite with a dramatic crackled interior that captures and refracts light throughout the form. Rising from a stepped square plinth to a sharply faceted pyramidal apex, the sculpture displays rich honey and golden tones, while its crystalline network of internal fractures creates remarkable depth and a jewel-like luminosity from every angle. Inspired by the monumental obelisks of antiquity, the work reinterprets the ancient architectural form through the innovative use of acrylic resin, exemplifying the artist's fascination with light, transparency, and sculptural geometry. A striking example of French modern decorative design, the piece functions equally as a sculptural object and a dynamic study in color and optical effects.
