Slice of Italian pietra paesina, also known as landscape stone or ruin marble. Originating primarily from the region of Florence, pietra paesina's natural appearance resembles an impressionistic painting of a ruined landscape or desert. It has been collected as an ornament throughout Europe since the Middle Ages, prized particularly in the Royal Courts.
